Dress Code

Dance Around Dress Codes and Attire

Having the right attire and shoes for a dance class is like having the right tools to do a job.  Proper attire allows instructors to make the best corrections and puts the dancer in the right frame of mind.  Footwear is a part of the attire.  FOR ALL CLASSES: Knees must be covered at all times.

Dance Around studios are street shoe free zones.  All non-dance shoes must be removed prior to stepping foot in a studio.  Please DO NOT wear dance shoes outside of the studio including quick walks to or from vehicles.  If you’ve worn the shoes outside the studio at all, they are considered Street Shoes.

At this time, Dance Around has a small selection of shoes and clothing.  Please see the Director for advice on how and where to purchase additional dance attire and shoes.  Dress codes are strictly enforced.  Failure to meet dress codes will result in the student having to leave or sit out of class.  For ALL classes, students must have their knees covered for their safety.

Ballet, Combo and Creative Movement classes

Girls’ Attire: Girls must be in a leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes.  Ballet skirts may be worn during the duration of the class.  Warm-ups may be worn at the beginning of class at the discretion of the instructor.  NO shorts, pants or other skirts (whether dance or street) allowed.  Panties and undergarments are strongly discouraged.

Boys’ Attire:  Boys must wear black jazz pants, a solid colored t-shirt and black ballet shoes.  Under armor shirts are strongly recommended.

Hip-Hop classes

Attire:  For classes of this nature, attire is much less restricted.  Sweats and loose fitting clothing is permitted.  NO street clothes, jeans, shorts, skirts or tube tops allowed.  Knees and bellies must be covered at all times, and pants should rest no lower than the pelvis.

Shoes:  Sneakers (designated specifically for dance class only) or dance sneakers are strongly recommended.  NO street shoes.  Jazz shoes may substitute for sneakers.  Ballet shoes, socks or tights are not appropriate substitutions for sneakers.

Hair:  It is recommended that hair be off of the face and tacked down enough to not be a distraction to students.
